| Dr. Leonard V. Falcone (1899-1985) |
| Dr. Leonard Falcone was Director of Bands and Professor of Music at Michigan State University from 1927 to 1967. Leonard Vincent Falcone was born April 5, 1899 in Italy and began the study of music at the age of nine in his home town band. He moved to the United States in 1915. In 1926 he graduate from the University of Michigan School of Music with a major in violin. Throughout his long career, Dr. Falcone has been recognized as a distinguished conductor, adjudicator and clinician. He has received many awards, notably the Honoary Doctor of Fine Arts granted by Michigan State Universtiy in 1978 in recognition of his distinguished service to the University and the nation. In February of 1984, Dr. Falcone was inducted into the National Band Association Hall of Fame of Distinguished Band Conductors. | The Festival |
| In 1986 former students of Dr. Falcone formed the festival in order to perpetuate his memory. The festival is of the premiere international euphonium and tuba festival/ competitions and the only annual festival of its kind. The festival provides a continuing testimony to the profound influence of Dr. Leonard Falcone upon the lives of his students and the extraordinary level of artistry he achieved throughout his career on the instrument he loved. |
| The Festival objectives are: |
| • To promote the highest level of artistry on the euphonium and tuba |
| • To encourage young musicians to study the euphonium and tuba |
| • To enhance the repertoire of the euphonium and tuba bycommissioning original compositions,transcriptions, and arrangements |
| • To present master classes and performances by distinguished euphonium and tuba artists |
| • To foster an increased awareness and appreciation for the euphonium and tuba by the general public |
