FALCONE FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES DR. CHRIS COMBEST TO BE NEW FESTIVAL PRESIDENT BEGINNING 2025
FOR THE 2025 FESTIVAL: There is an age limit for applicants in the student divisions. Participants must not have reached their 20th birthday prior to September 1 of the Festival year. For the 2025 Festival, a participant who will be 20 years old or older on September 1, 2025, is not eligible to apply in either student division. To put it another way, if you answer the question “How old will I be on September 1, 2025?” with the answer “20,” you are not eligible to apply in either student division. |
The Falcone Festival is held over a four day period each summer and has been housed since its inception at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Michigan. In addition to the competition aspect of the Festival, participants are offered the opportunity to attend master classes and recitals provided by internationally recognized euphonium/tuba artists. For more information about Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, please visit their web site at www.bluelake.org
For 2024, again the Falcone Festival provided Blue Lake with a list of contestants, judges, pianists, and volunteers and their email addresses prior to the Festival. Blue Lake emailed a link to a health screening which consisted of a series of questions each person answered and sent back to Blue Lake prior to the Festival. Everyone passed the screening, and no futher action was required by Festival participants.
Blue Lake did expect that if any participant showed symptoms of contagious illness, they would follow Blue Lake treatment guidelines.
Thankfully, no COVID-related problems occurred during the 2024 Festival!
The Leonard Falcone International Euphonium & Tuba Festival and Competition has gained worldwide recognition as the premier event of its kind in the tuba-euphonium world. Founded in 1986, the Festival has evolved into a true international event that has offerings to include lessons, ensembles, seminars, and clinics with many of the world's most recognized euphonium and tuba artists.
In service of our objective to enhance the repertoire for the euphonium and tuba by commissioning and encouraging original compositions, transcriptions, and arrangements, the Festival has periodically sponsored adjudicated contests for new works, judged anonymously, with prizes for winners. Adjudication personnel have been drawn from a variety of backgrounds including composition, teaching, and performance in the tuba/euphonium idiom. This is one way we promote the highest level of artistry on the euphonium and tuba.
In addition to a cash prize, the winning compositions have been included in the required music list for the following year's Festival. This has involved partnering with a Festival-approved tuba/euphonium publisher to ensure proper availability for future contestants. Runner-up and honorable mention works may also appear on future competition repertoire, and as such are subject to the same publishing and availability standards.
